It is now certain that the UK will enter a Brexit transition period that will run from January to at least the end of 2020. Through the 2020 Brexit transition period, all EU rules and regulations will continue to apply to the UK and nothing will materially change about how Kixto ships to the EU.
If your project will ship in 2020, you will see no increased EU fulfilment costs due to Brexit from Kixto.
EU-UK negotiations concerning 2021 and beyond will take shape next year:
- negotiators may extend the transition period by two years, meaning it could remain in place until 31 December 2022. The UK government says a full trade deal can be done quickly but we think an extension is more likley than a trade deal being done in 12 months.
- The UK and EU both want to avoid adding friction to a valuable trade link. We expect customs charges to be avoided by streamlined customs processes for trusted senders such as Kixto.
As ever, Kixto keeps a watchful eye on Brexit proceedings. We were correct in our central predictions about EU shipping after Brexit, particularly that change will be slow and with lots of notice. Kixto is agile and ready to react, but also well informed and evidence-based in our decision making.
I’m always happy to talk Brexit, mark@kixto.eu
